Approval Voting for Colorado seeks Co-Sponsors for Jonathan Singer’s House Bill in 2017. The Bill directs the Secretary of State to promulgate elections rules for the administration of any elections that employ the Approval Voting method.
Once passed, there is no obligation to institute Approval Voting by the state. Approval Voting is Opt-In for those communities that wish to use it. Home Rule Communities may use Approval Voting without the oversight of the Secretary of State, but fail to do so without for lack of rules.
Statutory counties and cities need rules from the Colorado Secretary of State as does the state itself, before engaging any alternative voting method. The Bill that we propose merely asks the Secretary of State to create those rules and procedures within two years of passage.
